about

I got tired of people inventing bogus reasons for why Trump won, and for blaming the wrong people for his win (e.g. saying that marginalized people asked for too much). So ... I wrote this song about that.

There are a lot of reasons why Trump won. Bigotry is a big one.

All financial profits from this song will be donated to the Trevor Project and Black Lives Matter.

lyrics

stepped on a crack
that's why trump won
you broke your back
that's why trump won
you're not insured
so you'll never be cured
that's why he won

climate's changing
that's why trump won
comets blazing
that's why trump won
poles are reversing
that's why trump won
he's bursting his purse strings
that's why trump won

people getting killed by hate
people getting laughed at by the state
we shouted too loud, let voices get heard
saying, let me live, the world flipped the bird
then told us to forgive

you should've been polite
let em walk on you
give up your rights
what few you had to lose
why put it off?
how dare you keep on breathing
that's why he won

work within the system, or break it down
it doesn't really matter, as the sea levels drown us all
work within the system, or tear it apart
it's pretty hard to fight, with a broken heart
we shouted too loud, let voices get heard
saying, let me live, the world flipped the bird
then told us to forgive

we will walk along the beach
I'll hold her hand, as we all face the waves
we will walk until we reach
the darkest depths, a maze of caves

but, underground, we will not sleep
emerging when the time is right
when we crawl out from the deep
we'll be covered in salt
ready to fight

for now, I'll walk along the beach
I'll hold her hand, in the undertow
where your smugness cannot reach
until we emerge, from the below

covered in salt
covered in salt
